Max Maven
Orson
Welles wrote that Max Maven has “the most original mind
in magic.” Fortuitously, he died before he could revise that
opinion.
The New York Times observed that Max’s
“category-defying mind-reading show veers into conceptual
art.” People magazine hailed his work as “a
new form of participatory theater.” The Los Angeles
Times stated that his “improvisational skill is
enhanced by a charismatic animal magnetism.” No, we don’t
know exactly what that’s supposed to mean, but apparently
audiences in over two dozen countries agree.
His television credits include hosting eight specials
in Japan (performing in Japanese), and starring in series in
Taiwan, Sweden, Norway, Finland, England and Canada. Recent
work includes two specials in Korea, and the new VH1 series
Celebracadabra, on which he's a judge.
Behind the scenes, Max has been a consultant for most
of the top names in contemporary magic, and an advisor on
over one hundred television shows. He has published
approximately two thousand articles, tricks and essays, and
now he is very tired.
Docc
Hilford
Innovator, master performer, genius - Docc Hilford has changed
the face of mentalism and bizarre magick. He's not just weird,
he's Weerd!
He is known for his simple yet masterful methods and
awe-inspiring presentations.
Luke
Jermay made his mark on the changing face of contemporary
Mentalism with the publication of his debut work “7
Deceptions” published by Kenton Knepper which drew acclaim
and controversy in equal measure.
This was followed by the publication of “Building Blocks”
first hardback which sent out a strong message that Jermay was
here to stay, Jermay followed this with the release of his
first DVD “Skulduggery” which proved that this stuff
really works! and recently released what seems to be his final
published work for some time to come in the form of “The
Coral Fang” which has been hailed by many as his best yet.
Besides
writing and lecturing for other performers Jermay is a busy
and in demand performer in his native England, across Europe and
the USA.
Rick
Maue has been creating theatrical
deception for more than four decades, and his specialty is
getting inside the heads of his audience. His demonstrations
range from controlling the decisions of others to reading their
thoughts—but not really. After all, everything that Rick does is
nothing more than theater, but sometimes he has a difficult time
convincing everyone that sees him that he is simply creating
illusions for the mind.
Until 1999, the magic world had never heard of
Rick Maue because he was too busy
performing in the real world. But then a strange routine called
TERASABOS started to float through the
underground, and people started talking. Soon after,
TERASABOS “officially” appeared in
The Book Of HauntedMagick, which was
Rick’s first major release. Now, eight years later,
HauntedMagick has sold in the
thousands, and in over thirty-three different countries. But
Rick didn’t stop there.
Since 2000, he has released a body of work that caught the
attention of folks like
Banachek, Bob Sheets,
Simon Lovell,
Craig Karges,
Joshua Jay, Paul
Gertner, Lance
Daniels, Todd
Robbins, Doc
Eason, Docc
Hilford, Jon
Stetson, MAGIC
Magazine, L&L
Publishing, and many more…
Some of Rick’s other creations include,
FATE, THE FINAL PICTURE, IMAGINE, MIXED EMOTIONS, THE JOURNEY,
and
THE BOOK OF SPIRITS SEANCE.
When he is able, Rick also lectures—and his tours have taken him
from Arizona to New England, and from Florida to Seattle. He was
the first lecturer to be brought back a second time at
MINDvention, and now he has become a
yearly contributor to the event—so he will be there again this
November with more new material. Rick is also a featured
performer at the
2008 LVMI
scheduled for this June.
Rick spends most of his time at his home in Pittsburgh, with his
wife Tammy and their daughter Jamie—where they run Deceptions
Unlimited. He still tries to remain a bit of an enigma, but it
gets harder with each passing year.
Marc
Spelmann has been a professional entertainer since the early
1990’s.
Based in London he has performed for Heads of State,
Royalty, Celebrities and some of the most Influential corporate
companies world wide. His performances have taken him from Las
Vegas to Hong Kong, performing for 3000 people in a theatre to 4
people in a private dinning room in Moscow. Marc has released
numerous publications and dvds to the magic and mentalism
fraternity over the last four years.
His lecture at MINDvention will be a one off lecture
specially designed, written and created for the attendees.
